HISTORY ASPECTS: The ATR 42-500, registration CU-T1240, was a critical component of Cubana de Aviación’s regional fleet. As a versatile turboprop aircraft, it was well-suited for operating in Cuba’s diverse geographic conditions, ranging from mountainous terrain to smaller island airstrips. Cubana adopted the ATR 42-500 to modernize its regional services, replacing older aircraft with a more efficient, comfortable, and reliable solution for passengers traveling within the Caribbean. The aircraft embodied Cubana’s commitment to improving accessibility across the country and neighboring destinations. CU-T1240 primarily operated on domestic routes, connecting Havana with smaller cities such as Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, and Camagüey. Its ability to efficiently serve short-haul routes and operate on shorter runways was invaluable for maintaining Cuba’s national connectivity. The ATR 42-500 also featured improved noise reduction and passenger comfort compared to earlier variants, making it a popular choice for travelers exploring the island's vibrant cities and pristine beaches. Its role extended to regional flights across the Caribbean, linking Cuba to nations like Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, further enhancing cultural and economic ties. The aircraft also played a pivotal role in Cuba’s economic and tourism sectors, ensuring dependable service to remote locations that were crucial for tourism and local development. CU-T1240 highlighted Cubana’s efforts to maintain a modern fleet while managing operational challenges, including embargo-related restrictions on acquiring aircraft parts and maintenance resources. Its inclusion in Cubana’s operations marked a step forward in offering reliable and sustainable air transport across the region. This 1:200 scale model captures the essence of Cuban aviation with its authentic livery and exquisite attention to detail. A perfect addition to any aviation enthusiast’s collection, it represents the critical role of regional connectivity and the unique character of Caribbean air travel.
