HISTORY ASPECTS: The Boeing C-97A Stratofreighter, tail number 49-2601, served prominently in the New York Air National Guard (NYANG) as part of its airlift capabilities. Originally developed from the B-29 Superfortress bomber, the C-97A was designed to meet the USAF's post-World War II transport needs, boasting a distinctive double-bubble fuselage that maximized cargo and personnel capacity. This innovative design allowed it to fulfill missions ranging from troop transport to medical evacuations and heavy equipment delivery. During its tenure with the New York Air National Guard, 49-2601 became a critical asset in domestic and international missions during the Cold War. The Stratofreighter played a key role in supporting U.S. strategic initiatives, delivering personnel and supplies to bases across Europe and maintaining readiness in the face of potential conflicts. The NYANG relied heavily on its versatility, particularly during exercises and deployments that required rapid response capabilities. The C-97A also participated in humanitarian and disaster relief missions, a hallmark of the NYANG's service. Its ability to carry large payloads made it invaluable in responding to natural disasters, delivering aid and evacuation support to affected regions. Over its operational life, 49-2601 embodied the dual mission of readiness and compassion that defined the Air National Guard’s role in global and domestic service. This 1:200 scale model captures the essence of this iconic aircraft. With its meticulously crafted details, from the double-bubble fuselage to the NYANG livery, it stands as a fitting tribute to an era of aviation innovation and steadfast service. Whether for display or as part of a historical collection, this replica is a must-have for enthusiasts and collectors.
