HISTORY ASPECTS: The Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker is a long-serving aerial refueling aircraft operated by the United States Air Force and widely used by Air National Guard units across the United States. Developed by Boeing from the original 707 airframe, the KC-135 was designed to extend the range and endurance of combat and support aircraft through in-flight refueling. The KC-135R variant features upgraded CFM56 turbofan engines, improved fuel efficiency, reduced noise, and enhanced reliability, allowing it to remain a critical asset in modern air mobility operations decades after its introduction. Aircraft 61-027 has been operated by the Utah Air National Guard as part of its strategic air refueling mission. Based at Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base in Salt Lake City, Utah, KC-135R tankers like this aircraft support a wide range of operations by refueling fighters, bombers, transport aircraft, and reconnaissance platforms in mid-air. This capability allows U.S. and allied aircraft to conduct long-range missions without the need to land, significantly extending operational reach and endurance. The KC-135 has played a vital role in numerous major U.S. military operations and global deployments. It has supported missions such as the Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan, and the Iraq War, where aerial refueling was essential to sustained air operations. Aircraft like 61-027 continue to provide critical global reach capability, ensuring that U.S. air power can be projected anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice. This 1:400 scale model captures the essential role of aerial refueling in modern air operations. Perfect for collectors of military aviation and Air National Guard aircraft, this replica makes a striking display piece honoring one of the most important support aircraft in U.S. Air Force history.
