This brand-new, officially licensed Hobby Master 1/72 diecast model represents the German Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf 110E-2 Trop “3U+AR” of 7./ZG 26 in Italy, 1941, from the “Air Power Series.” It has detailed, true-to-scale exterior features, realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface detail, plus a weathered finish with sun-faded camouflage, chipped paint and sand erosion. The model is made of diecast metal and plastic and includes a display stand and detachable landing gear. Approximate dimensions are Length- 7.25 inches and Wingspan- 8.75 inches. It comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging.
Designed as a long-range heavy fighter, the Bf 110E series had improved armor, bomb racks and reinforced airframes for demanding southern-theater operations. Aircraft such as 3U+AR operated from Italy on bomber-escort missions against Malta and Allied shipping lanes and ground-attack missions over North Africa. In 1941, Bf 110E-2s also flew from Sicilian and southern Italian airfields against British convoys resupplying Malta and forces reinforcing the Eighth Army in Egypt.
Bf 110 crews faced RAF Hurricanes and Spitfires based on Malta, as well as Bristol Beaufighters hunting Axis aircraft. The type’s speed and firepower suited boom-and-zoom attacks, but its limited agility made prolonged dogfights dangerous. It remained in frontline service in fighter-bomber roles and could carry bombs and rockets—roles that contemporary single-engine fighters struggled to combine. The 7. Staffel of ZG 26, known as the “Horst Wessel” Geschwader, flew long Mediterranean missions under difficult conditions, including heat, dust and mechanical strain. This 1:72 model’s camouflage, markings and weathering evoke that service and make it a detailed display piece for World War II aircraft collectors and military-history enthusiasts.
