This Italeri Skill 3 plastic model kit represents the 1978 Volkswagen Golf used by the Berlin Polizei (Police) Department. It is a 1/24 scale kit with a detailed engine, real rubber tires and colorful decal artwork. Assembled dimensions are approximately L-7.75 inches.
Paint and cement are required and not included. Parts are molded in color unless otherwise indicated; the “chrome” trim detail can be striped on with silver paint. The kit comes in vintage-style packaging in the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging and is described as an officially licensed product.
The Golf was introduced in Spring 1974 by the Wolfsburg car manufacturer. Its first series ran from 1974–1983 and featured a water-cooled front engine, front-wheel drive and solid, robust bodywork with a functional, attractive design. The Golf GTI was introduced at the 1975 Frankfurt Motor Show with a 110 HP 1,600 cc engine; mass production followed the next year. The German Police version was symbolic of everyday life during the 1970s and early 1980s.
