HISTORY ASPECTS: The Sukhoi Su-27UB Flanker is the two-seat combat-capable trainer variant of the renowned Su-27 air superiority fighter, developed to provide pilot conversion training while retaining full operational capability. Equipped with dual controls and nearly identical performance to the single-seat version, the Su-27UB allows for advanced instruction in air combat maneuvers, interception techniques, and tactical mission planning. With powerful engines, long-range endurance, and exceptional agility, the aircraft remains a formidable platform even in its training role. Within the Ukrainian Air Force, the Su-27UB has been operated by units such as the 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade, based at Myrhorod Air Base. By 2017, the brigade had become one of Ukraine’s premier fighter units, responsible for maintaining air defense readiness and training new generations of pilots. The Su-27UB played a key role in preparing crews for frontline service, participating in national exercises, air policing missions, and international training events that demonstrated Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize and maintain combat effectiveness. Although the Su-27UB is primarily a training aircraft, it has been used in operational contexts, particularly during the War in Donbas. Ukrainian Su-27 units were involved in air patrols, interception duties, and limited combat support roles during the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Aircraft like those operated by the 831st Brigade contributed to airspace control and deterrence, ensuring that pilots remained mission-ready under real-world conditions. The continued use of the Su-27UB in both training and operational environments highlights its versatility and importance in sustaining Ukraine’s fighter force during periods of conflict and tension. This 1:72 scale model captures the sleek lines and dual-seat configuration of this versatile fighter-trainer, offering collectors a detailed representation of an aircraft that bridges training and combat readiness in a modern European air force.
